The takedown screw holds the stock onto the barreled action. With the factory slotted screw it is easy for the screw driver to slip and mar the stock while you are trying to balance the upside down rifle in one hand and the screw driver in the other. (Believe me, I know) However, with an upgraded hex screw this will not happen and peace and harmony will prevail.
